Family History Monthly Workshop – October 22nd at 2pm
Its been about three months since we had our last workshop, so we are going to try and have another one this Sunday. These workshops are for anyone who is struggling to find enough motivation to research family names to take to the temple. I have personally experienced times where I will go through a slump (like the past 2 months) where I am not researching family names that I can take to the temple. If your anything like me, we need a nudge or boost every now and again to start doing the work. We have some great motivators planned for this workshop where we will hear from Karen Johnson, as well as Darin and Lola Bird that will talk about their experiences with family history that is very inspiring and motivating, something that we could all use more of.
Agenda:
Inspirational Message - Brother Roylance will share the two most common myths that most members deal with that stops them from researching their own family names to take to the temple. Can you guess what those two common myths are?
Interview with Karen Johnson – Karen will share her most recent experiences learning how to research her own family names.
Connecting with our ancestors – Darin and Lola Bird will share some of their experiences where they traveled different parts of Europe to learn more about their ancestors and how they became more connected to them through their travels.
Why doing hints is so very important? – Will hopefully clear up any confusion about what hints are and why they are so important to finding our ancestors that need their temple work done.
Doing hints in a more meaningful way – Even though there are many different ways to do hints, I will share what I think is the most meaningful way to do hints.

Guidelines for using Ordinance Ready
Determine if you are related by selecting the "View Relationship" link for each person in your list. If you are not related, then it could possibly be from someone in your ward or stake; otherwise, it could be from anyone.
Determine if they are a duplicate
This is best done by using the "Find Similar People" feature at the bottom right Tools section of the Person page
You can check if there are any "Possible Duplicates(0)" as well, but I have never seen a case where Ordinances Ready provided a name that had possible duplicates greater than zero.
Determine if they are legitimate
Check if they have a first and last name, and make sure the name seems reasonable without any special characters or weird words
Check if they have a birth date

Family History Monthly Workshop - April 23rd at 2pm
It’s that time of the month again where we will be having another family history workshop this coming Sunday April 23rd at 2pm where we will have several presenters share fun and interesting topics about how to do family history. Listed below are some of the topics that will be presented:
Inspirational Message – A short review of what our apostles (in our latest leadership meeting) are asking us to do with regards to family history work, and where our focus should be when doing family history work. I will also talk about a technology and a software application that they want us all to be using when doing family history work.
Cleaning up your Family Tree-Online – Karen Emery will be sharing a great review of what she learned from the 1st class in the “Cleaning Up Your Family Tree-Online” class series about how to go about cleaning up our family tree. She will be sharing some very useful tips and insights of what to look for when trying to fix mistakes on our family tree.
Tips on how to use Find-A-Grave – Karalee Roylance will share more tips and tricks on how to use find-a-grave (one of the most valuable resources in family history work), and how many times a find-a-grave source can have additional family members that need to be added to the family tree.
Easy ways to take family names to take the temple – For those that might be struggling with knowing how to take their own family names to the temple, I will share some techniques that will not only make it easier, but much more accurate in making sure we are not taking family names that are duplicates.
Doing hints on the phone vs hints on the computer (which way is better?) - I will be sharing my latest discovery of how to add people in the most effective way when doing hints.

Family History Workshop Video - Jerry and Karen Emery
We are hilighting a video from last months workshop where Jerry Emery explained how he found and added a mother and her eleven children to family search just by starting with a simple hint. This video is a perfect example of just how easy family history work can be, and how by just doing one hint, a family has the opportunity to be reunited and receive their temple blessings. It is really fun to hear both Jerry and Karen talk about their experience of finding this family, and what a joy it was for both of them as they tried to help this lost family. It is only about 7 minutes long and would be well worth your time to watch it.
